Edo State Government Clarifies It’s Stance On E-Gov
The Edo State Government has stated its stance on the e-governance platform (E-Gov), which is used by the State’s ministries, divisions, and agencies (MDAs) to conduct daily business.
The Secretary to the Edo State Government (SSG), Umar Musa Ikhilor, Esq., stateod that the clarifications were required due to false reports that the current governor’s administration, Sen. Monday Okpebholo, had shut down the E-Gov platform, which was started by the State’s immediate past administration.
In addition to directing MDA officials to keep working on the E-Gov platform, the SSG revealed that His Excellency, Sen. Okpebholo, had ordered an immediate review of the entire platform in order to restore the institutional memory of government, which the current platform lacks, and give the Edo State Government complete administrative control over the platform.
Ikhilor Esq. revealed that no person in the Edo State Government’s whole Public Service has administrative control over the platform, and that the entire E-Gov platform was managed and maintained from a backend by unidentified non-state actors.
The statement by the SSG added that such was considered a serious data security threat as it placed the entire governance structure of the State at the mercy of non-state actors or so-called Consultants.
